I run the gear program for my high school association and these are the shins I buy. Over the last 3 years, I have bought 17 sets. They are adequate for JV high school and below. The 2 main factors that made me choose these for inclusion in that program is cost and that they have a removable metatarsal guard so if a new umpire chooses to risk his toes without plate shoes, he at least has some foot protection.
